01: Introduction
Imagine a three-dimensional environment composed of form, space and light.
The elements in this environment contain symbols and information that convey meaning.
Movement through the space (introducing the fourth dimension of time) generates a sequence of meaningful events — a narrative.
There is a word for this concept: architecture.
In the posts to follow, we’ll explore some ideas and theory (both ancient and contemporary) involved in the creation of narrative experiences in digital (and hybrid) multisensory environments — a design practice we refer to as Digital Narrative Architecture (DNA).
